Google Withdraws EU Antitrust Complaint Against Microsoft Cloud
Google has withdrawn its EU antitrust complaint against Microsoft's cloud computing practices, a move that follows the European Union's launch of a separate investigation into the sector. The complaint, filed last year, accused Microsoft of anti-competitive tactics to lock customers into its Azure platform. Google's decision to drop the complaint aligns with the EU's broader scrutiny of cloud market practices.
The cloud computing landscape remains dominated by Amazon with a 30% market share, followed by Microsoft at 20% and Google at 13%. EU regulators may designate Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services as gatekeepers under the Digital Markets Act within the next year, signaling tighter oversight of the sector.
Giorgia Abeltino, Google Cloud Europe's senior director, stated the withdrawal reflects confidence in the EU's new investigative process. Google will continue collaborating with regulators to promote competition and choice in cloud markets.
